Design Methodology

Bringing Concentro Down to Earth

The ELAC Concentro S 509: a loudspeaker with characterful design and an impressive feature set. The wraparound baffle forms the basis for magnificent acoustic performances. Combined with the gently angled cabinet, the trapezoid basic shape, and an expressive bottom assembly, complete with a ‘high-heel’ effect, the result is a powerful yet natural and elegant appearance. Its exterior is a perfect symbiosis of the extravagant design of the Concentro and the clean lines of the VELA Series. The trapezoid basic shape, wraparound baffle, and gently angled cabinet combine to convey a natural, low-key appearance. The striking bottom assembly achieves a ‘high-heel’ effect, imparting a sense of elegance and stability. Incidentally, it also guarantees an exceptionally sound footing.

Directivity Control Ring (DCR) Technology

Exchangeable Wave Guides to Optimize Listening

Since no two rooms are identical, midrange directivity can be adjusted using three exchangeable Directivity Control Rings (DCRs). This provides the ability to optimize the Concentro S Loudspeakers for the listening space. They range from more Direct (often preferred for nearfield) to more Diffuse (often preferred for farther listening positions). A patented technology uses exchangeable DCRs (Directivity Control Ring) to tailor the directional characteristics in the mid-frequency range to conditions in the listening area. The different DCRs (three aluminum DCRs are included as standard) are used to influence the relationship between direct and diffuse sound in the listening area.

Crystal Membrane Driver

Engineered for Low Distortion

Based on ELAC’s Aluminum-Sandwich AS Technology. Resembling the surface of a large crystal, the aluminum-foil stamping stiffens the aluminum dome, diminishing resonances and minimizing coloration, while improving power handling and dynamics. The voice coil design of the drivers results in an expanded frequency range, and driver surround allows for longer cone excursions for truly prodigious volume and lowest distortion, a unique engineering achievement for a driver of its size.

Lightning-Fast Response and Wide Dynamic Range

Delivering true high-definition sound, ELAC’s JET 6 tweeter enthralls with its lightning-fast response and wide dynamic range, offering minimal distortion, lots of headroom, and a distinctly wider frequency range than conventional dome tweeters.
